I just got my results back from my blood work. Everything is fine. A little high but easily taken care of. Now if I could only do something about my weight

Everyone says exercise, good eating and blam, insta-sexy-Moe. The problem is getting myself started on it. I’ve lost weight before and need to now but I can’t seem to get started. I’ve been working on just portions to try to help but that’s only going to go so far. I can’t afford a gym just yet so that’s right out. I wouldn’t mind doing the exercise, if I knew what to do. That is my biggest problem. I just don’t know what to do.

I spent my election day free time (Yay for state jobs) getting blood work done and voting. Yes, I actually dragged my lazy ass out in the rain and voted. I don’t keep up with local politics so the only thing I had a real opinion on was the amendments. I did my best to judge those fairly in the time I had.

The blood work was to check if I had diabetes. As most of you know I’m not the picture of weight and health. Its irritating to get blood drawn, at least now. I guess the bout I had with some pain on my appendix side was to blame for constant blood work\IVs. I don’t mind it, I’m not scared of it but it just irritates me that I get to be poked and prodded yet again. I’m a whiner

Otherwise, this has been a good day. It gives me a much needed break from work.

Only just a test

I find myself in a rather difficult position. You see, I’ve had a crush on a certain girl off and on for quite a number of years. Now, don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t unfaithful to my ex-wife nor any other girl I would’ve been with at the time. When I’m single though, its fair game. I can’t say for sure if its just because she’s so much of what I want in a girl and just different enough to be fascinating or if its actually her that I long for. I’ve watched her date jackasses since I’ve known her and always secretly wanted to show her better but I never speak up. I’m probably in the friend zone for life. Some would say this is a good thing. Friends > lovers and all that. I argue, why can’t it be both? Isn’t your perfect mate supposed to also be a great friend? Someone you would share everything with?

Just when I think I’m over it again, she shows up with just a comment. My heart goes crazy again. My mood darkens knowing what I’m not ever going to have a chance at. I’d love to tell her just how I feel right this minute but do I risk making a friend feel weird around me just so I can have the catharsis?

I know this is rather depressing. I’m not proud of how I feel, nor am I shamed by it. Its how I feel right now. No matter how hard I try, its just not as easy to accept 1 sided feelings anymore as it used to be. I can distract myself all I want. “Do things for myself” is a lesson I haven’t yet learned how to do. I don’t do things for myself except in rare occasions. I do things for others more easily. There’s just no other for me to do things for right now.

July 4th weekend

You all would be proud of me. I actually spent less time on Warcraft than usual. I don’t know if its the wait on the expansion or just plain burnout but I just have no reason to log in much. I spent most of my long weekend either archiving anime for free space on the media drive.

Yes, we all know I’m a tremendous nerd and should be doing better things with my time. I, at least, did spend some time outside going to shops, getting my car washed. That has to count for something right?

I spent my weekend pretty pathethically. If I was outside my house, I spent it at Best Buy or Barnes and Noble. Inside was kept to Warcraft and my attempt at watching Kubrick’s 2001. I stopped to catch a nap partly because I love sleep. I endeavor to pick it up again asap to finish it. I think its an awesome movie so far. I also found out that my local wal-mart has awesome blu ray deals. I picked up quite a few for $10-$15 each. In birthday news (hey, its only 17 days away damn it), I’m gonna get a Nook to try out. I’m actually rather excited since I love to read but just can’t seem to get comfortable anywhere but work.

I’ve finally jumped from the Apple crowd to the Android Cult. I purchased a Nexus One on Thursday. So far, I love the little thing. It seems a lot more intuitive and faster than my 8gb 3G iPhone. Now I just need more applications

I’ve always had this nagging feeling like I was meant to do something with writing. I tried writing stories when I was younger. Most said they were good but looking back, they weren’t. At least, I didn’t think so. Now, inching ever so closer to my 32nd year on this planet, I keep considering I want to be a critic.

This is where you laugh. It’s ok. I don’t mind.

I’ve been tempted to do Anime reviews since I have a nearly infinite supply and a voracious appetite for it. I’ve also been tempted to do movie reviews as this blog has shown previously. Without some sort of recognition, I feel like my time spent doing either is wasted. I don’t expect to become rich doing it. I expect to at least be able to do more for the industry I do enjoy. As a test, I’m going to throw up 2 seperate sites. 1 shall be my anime review site. The other, my movie reviews. I’ll invite you to read each one, if you don’t mind, and just let me know what you think. I’m going to try my best but I’m open to criticism and all that if you see I’m going in the right direction.

If I somehow completely miss the point of it, say so. I find putting my thoughts on a particular piece of entertainment down is somehow a harbinger of clarity to me. The fan boy stops squealing momentarily to see the real truth in how I feel about it. With that, I hope you all wish me luck and I’ll be linking those sites very soon. Hopefully with good material.

Networking woes

My wife and friend have been after me to fix the home network after we did a lot of living room rearrangement. I finally got around to doing the biggest thing I dreaded most: Getting the Vonage connection integrated back into the network. Normally, this is not a big deal but for some reason, Vonage or my Linksys router did not want to play nice with the other. Getting one of the two working was an accomplishment. Both was asking for a peace-on-earth type miracle. When I even got close, something else would pop up. Both work? Wireless kicks everyone off after 5 minutes. Remove one? Life is fine. Add to this that I had not set them both on the same subnet for some obscure reason and you begin to see my frustration.

Finally, I gave in and started posting to websites for help. I send tech support e-mails to Vonage for another direction. Neither ended up with the proper answer, which is Linksys sucks ass. I replaced my crippled Linksys with a same price Belkin router. Everything works perfectly now. Wireless is stable as it can be. Vonage works. My network doesn’t look like ass. I’m a happy little camper.

The bad part about all of this is, I’ve been pretty faithful to Linksys for years. When Cisco acquired them, I felt that I had even more reason to be faithful. This turned out to be the worst decision. I have 2 crippled routers that aren’t worth much for anything more than basic use and the newer one I bought had a failing network card. You can’t blame Linksys, you say? I can. See, back when I was less hate-fueled than I am now, Linksys had some nice ones that allowed you to flash the software with something that didn’t suck. Once this caught on, they immediately crippled them and with that, the quality went to shit.

I’m pretty sure I’ll be writing this rant again later for another company until I can purchase a house and have wired ports all over the place. At least then, I can buy some Cisco equipment and have a bit more control and stability.

Multiplayer rant

With Bioshock 2 coming out tomorrow, I decided to check on the achievements. I admit I am a bit of an achievement whore and enjoy hearing the little noise that comes with it. Much to my dismay, I see a few achievements being multiplayer-only. Now, this is perfectly fine for games with known large multiplayer communities. I don’t care that Halo or Gears of War have a ton of these kinds of achievements. Bioshock is NOT a game with a large multiplayer community. It doesn’t need to be. The first was a good atmospheric fps that deserved all the love it received. The second seems to be heading closer to generic fps that I can say I usually pass up or rent.

The biggest problem I have with this is, I like to show my “love” for a game by hitting S-Rank (completing all achievements). Should I have to play multiplayer to achieve this even though I don’t enjoy this style of gameplay? Apparently the studio or producers think so. Sure, you can just ignore it and complete the single player experience and leave those behind but I find that to be irritating. Why force a particular play mode on players? For that matter, why force different styles into games that don’t need them? Do I want to play stealth levels when I’m cleaving people in half with a sword or firing an assault rifle into troops repeatedly? I don’t think so. This argument\whine has been done a billion times before and will be done another billion before I’m dead. I just needed to get it off my chest.

In short: Fuck multiplayer achievements

Depending on how fast I can level up in this system, I may just slog through it and be done with it.
